Practical Shotgun (PSG) really is an exciting and exhilarating sport.

I would love to compete in Practical shotgun, but in my neck of the
woods up in North Wales there's nowhere to do it, so there's no chance
of me getting one on my FAC :(

Hi hkpete,
We have just shot the Welsh Championships at Border Guns near Clun. This cannot be too far from you & they run clubs shoots quite regularly. To gain justification then join the UKPSA & this membership will provide you all the justification you need to gain a section 1 shotgun. If you need further advice then give me a shout.
Kind regards
Pete

Hi Powderman.
Where's Clun? (My brain isn't in 1st gear today!) And I was just wondering, what is the minimum barrel length for a Practical shotgun? Is it 24" like on an SGC? |

Hi Hkpete
erm, Border Guns is about 30miles (i think) south of Shrewsbury. It really is a great range, and they run brilliant competitions there (unfortunately i was on holiday and missed this years Welsh Champs ). But one of the things with PSG is that wherever you live, the ranges are so spaced out, that if you want to shoot all the competitions, you will have to travel a long way for them, but i have to say, it is well worth it. And like powderman said, to have justification for a section 1 shotgun, you just need to join the UKPSA, and do a basic safety course, which is a 2 day course where you are taught how to shoot safely, but it is great fun!For shotguns, then minimum barrel length of 24" still applies to section 1 shotguns (anything with a shorter barrel is a section 5 prohibited weapon), but you don't need a shorter barrel for PSG! All you really need is a semi, or a pump with a long magazine tube, and lots of ammo! If there is anything else i can help you with feel free to ask JGS |
